Going back to square one’: An Afghan filmmaker’s heartfelt post about leaving his homeland goes viral
The disaster in Afghanistan that has unfolded in recent weeks has shocked the entire world. The Taliban reclaimed control of the country and quickly seized power. Women were forced to stay at home when the Taliban ruled the country because they were unable to work. Many people are fleeing the country to avoid a repeat of history, despite the fact that they claim to have been granted some freedom this time.
As part of the mass migration, a filmmaker-journalist named Roya Heydari posted a sombre message on Twitter as she prepares to embark on a journey that will take her away from her hometown for good.
She took to Twitter to share a photo of herself waiting outside Kabul’s Hamid Karzai Airport. Her post was captioned: “I left my entire life, including my home, in order to maintain my voice. I’m fleeing my motherland once more. I’m going to start from scratch once more. I travelled across an ocean with only my cameras and a dead soul. With a heavy heart, I bid farewell to my motherland. Until the next time we meet.”

Heydari, according to media reports, was able to flee Kabul and reach France five days ago, fearing she would be unable to work under Taliban control.
Meanwhile, two attacks took place, one at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport and the other at the nearby Baron Hotel, bringing the total number of casualties to 90, including ten US marines. The US military has promised to find the leaders of the Islamic State, which claimed responsibility for the suicide attack. According to an ISIS-K statement, the strike was aimed at interpreters and collaborators with the US Army.
Terrorism will not deter the United States, according to US President Joe Biden, who pledged to track down the perpetrators and hold them accountable for the heinous attacks. In response to Thursday’s horrific incident, Biden stated that, despite the grave dangers, the US had evacuated over 100,000 people from Afghanistan in the previous few days.
