New Delhi: Karnataka Police reportedly apprehended the five accused in the Mysuru gang rape case on Saturday. On his way to advise Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on the new development, State Home Minister Araga Jnanendra told reporters that an effort to apprehend the perpetrators had been successful. He didn’t say much else, but he vowed to divulge more by midday.

According to police reports, four of the accused were apprehended in Sathyamangala, Tamil Nadu, while the fifth was apprehended in Chamarajanagar, Karnataka. Five special teams were researching the case from various perspectives.

Investigators recovered beer bottles and cans from the crime scene, followed the MRP back to the liquor store, and collected CCTV evidence. The special teams collected information on local criminals from Tamil Nadu police and matched the details, including video footage obtained in Mysuru.

According to police officials, the inquiry also revealed that the accused were habitual offenders, having perpetrated another rape in the Kuvempunagar district of Mysuru city five months prior.

According to the police, all of the apprehended suspects are coolies who were frequently observed selling bananas at the Mysuru vegetable market. Later, in an isolated part of Lalithadripura, where the incident occurred, the accused would consume alcohol.

According to police, the accused stalked the pair for three days before attacking on the fourth day with the intent of robbing the couple, but instead gang-raped the victim.
