Afghanistan crisis: Six Afghans, including four children, are killed when a rocket lands in a residential area of Kabul

A local source confirmed that six Afghan civilians, including four children, were killed after a rocket was fired at the Kabul airport where US-led evacuation flights were continuing but failed to hit the target.

“The rocket struck a house in Khwaja Bughra, a populated residential area in Police District 15, killing two adults and four children,” Hajji Karim, a municipality district representative, told reporters at the scene.

The incident occurred around 4:55 p.m. local time in the area west of Hamid Karzai International Airport, according to the Xinhua news agency.

A deadly suicide bomb blast and gunfire claimed by ISIS-K, a local affiliate of the Islamic State group, killed 170 Afghans and 13 US troops at the Kabul airport’s eastern gate on Thursday, injuring nearly 200 others.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack. So far, neither Taliban officials nor public health officials have commented on the explosion.

According to witnesses, the attack occurred while a US drone was hovering over the city.

During the day, dozens of planes, including military planes, took off from the airport. All US and coalition forces are expected to leave the country by the planned deadline of August 31.
