Mysuru Gangrape Case: The survivor’s family fled the city without giving police a statement

New Delhi: A 23-year-old woman who was allegedly gang-raped in Chamundi Hills on Tuesday has reportedly fled the city with her family without providing a statement to police.

According to a news channel report, the alleged victim was unwilling to record her statement, which weakens the case in which the state police arrested five men.

Previously, the Karnataka government stated that the police were unable to record her statement because she was traumatised and in shock.

The woman’s boyfriend, who was beaten up by the assailants on Tuesday evening, filed a report about the alleged incident. The arrests and First Information Report (FIR) have sparked outrage in the state in response to the heinous crime.

Furthermore, according to PTI, the arrest was based on evidence such as bus tickets and liquor bottles found near the crime scene, as well as call detail records from mobile towers.

On Saturday, police announced the arrest of five people from neighbouring Tamil Nadu, including a juvenile, and said they are looking for a sixth suspect.

During a search of the crime scene, police discovered bus tickets from Talwadi in Tamil Nadu to Chamarajanagar in Karnataka, as well as liquor bottles bearing the Tamil Nadu excise department’s seal.

With all of these leads, police set out for Tamil Nadu on Friday, and when they arrived in the middle of the night, they swung into action, resulting in the arrest of the five suspects early on Saturday.

According to the police, the five accosted the college student and her male friend near the Chamundi foothills on the outskirts of Mysuru on August 24 and attempted to rob them. When they didn’t succeed, they allegedly assaulted him and raped her, according to police sources.

Meanwhile, the accused has been remanded in police custody for ten days by the court.
