‘With permission, foreign nationals and Afghan citizens can travel outside of Afghanistan

Washington: According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, all foreign nationals and Afghan citizens with travel authorization from around 100 countries, including the United States, will be allowed to travel outside of Afghanistan.

Blinken also stated in a tweet that America will hold the Taliban accountable for their commitment.

“Today, nearly 100 countries issued a joint statement in response to the Taliban’s assurances that all foreign nationals and Afghan citizens with travel authorization from our countries will be able to travel outside of Afghanistan safely. We will hold the Taliban accountable for their commitment “He stated.

According to the US Department of State, in a joint statement on Afghanistan Evacuation Travel Assurances by the Taliban, the US and nearly 100 other countries stated that all foreign nationals and Afghans with travel authorization from the said countries will be allowed to safely travel outside the war-ravaged country.

“We are all committed to ensuring that our citizens, nationals and residents, employees, Afghans who have worked with us, and those who are at risk can continue to travel freely outside of Afghanistan.” “We have received assurances from the Taliban that all foreign nationals and Afghan citizens with travel authorization from our countries will be allowed to proceed to points of departure and travel outside the country in a safe and orderly manner,” the joint statement said.

“We will continue to issue travel documents to designated Afghans, and we have a clear expectation and commitment from the Taliban that they will be able to travel to our respective countries.” “We take note of the Taliban’s public statements confirming this understanding,” the joint statement said.

Since August 14, the United States has evacuated or assisted in the evacuation of approximately 114,400 people. Approximately 120,000 people have been relocated in the United States since the end of July. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Friday that the US will work with the Taliban to ensure the safe evacuation of people from Afghanistan after the August 31 withdrawal deadline.

“The President directed the Secretary of State to continue diplomatic efforts with international partners to secure means for third-country nationals and Afghans with visas to leave the country even after the US military presence ends,” Psaki said at a press conference.

Afghanistan’s situation is deteriorating as people flee the country after the Taliban took control more than a week ago. The Afghan government collapsed on August 15, shortly after President Ashraf Ghani left the country.

Countries have been evacuating their citizens from the war-torn country as quickly as possible. The Kabul airport is currently in a state of disarray as a result of the region’s insecurity.
