Fears of a third wave of COVID-19 have prompted the government to advise caution during the upcoming holiday season

New Delhi: As India recorded its highest single-day COVID-19 cases in nearly two months, fears of a third wave have been raised. Over 40,000 coronavirus cases have been recorded in India in the last six days, indicating a sharp increase in infections.

In the midst of the increase in cases, the Center issued a warning that the second wave is not yet over and urged people to exercise caution during the holiday season. The government reiterated that the mask mandate, as well as all other COVID-19 protocols, must be strictly adhered to.

In a press conference on Thursday, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan stated, “Approximately 47,000 new corona patients have been identified in the last 24 hours… People must understand that the second wave is far from over. More than 100 cases of corona are still reported daily in 42 districts.”

While the danger remains, Balram Bhargava, director of the Indian Council of Medical Research, cautioned that vaccination and masks are critical. “The threat is still present. The vaccine mitigates the disease’s severity. However, even after vaccination, a mask is required.”

Furthermore, he urged people not to be complacent and to avoid going out without a mask, and he urged people to attend festivals only after they had received their vaccine doses. “Some people are careless in this regard and attend large events without masks. We must refrain from doing so. Participate in the upcoming festivals only after you have received your full vaccination. Only then will the corona pandemic be halted “He stated.
