A 12-year-old boy who died of Nipah was cremated in accordance with safety protocols.

Kozhikode: A 12-year-old boy who died of the Nipah virus was cremated at Kannamparamb Cemetery in Kozhikode, according to safety protocols. Prayers were offered by Kozhikode Corporation health workers and the boy’s relatives in accordance with protocol and while wearing PPE kits. No one else from the outside was permitted.

With the death of the boy on Sunday early morning, the Nipah virus was confirmed in Kozhikode district.

At a private hospital in Kozhikode, the boy died of the Nipah virus. He was admitted four days ago with a high fever and symptoms of vomiting and meningitis, but his condition worsened by late night. The child had a 104-degree fever and was on ventilator support for four days.

The child was initially admitted to a private hospital, then to Kozhikode Medical College, and finally to another multi-specialty hospital.

Family members, friends, and others who had contact with the infected child were kept under observation.
