KSRTC is a revenue generator, not a liquor store

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is under fire for renting out its building complex to the Beverages Corporation, and accusations of engaging in the liquor business are being levelled. The situation has also sparked a social media frenzy, with numerous memes and trolls mocking the situation being circulated.

It was a decision made by the corporation, which is struggling to pay its employees’ salaries. They intend to rent out as many buildings as possible in order to increase miscellaneous revenue.

Following the High Court’s order, the KSRTC marketing department set its sights on the Beverages Corporation, which is looking for new locations. The only stipulation was that it not be an inconvenience to the bus service or the passengers. The Beverages Corporation’s enticement is that they can rent the building at a low cost.

If necessary, Beverages Corporation may construct buildings on KSRTC property. KSRTC is willing to temporarily transfer unused lands for this purpose.

The Beverages Corporation has been looking for new locations for the 153 shops that will be relocated from there. If the shops within the land limit are not relocated, they will be forced to close. Such a move will benefit the bar owners.
