Make a home spa to relieve stress during these times

Do you miss your pre-pandemic life? We’re sure there are many things you wish you could have, such as hugs and catch-ups with friends. Visiting a spa is also high on the list for many people. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy a shiatsu massage, a mint or chocolate-scented wrap, or a lovely floral foot soak? Though you can’t go out for all of that just yet, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy the same things at home. Make your own mini-spa area in your home to relax in.

Dr. Chytra V Anand, a beauty expert, and cosmetic dermatologist says, “There is a lot of fatigue and stress levels are at an all-time high amid the pandemic.” Managing family time while working from home also adds a lot of stress. It can cause physical reactions such as fluctuating thyroid levels, increased acne and hair loss, and dry skin and weight gain. Something must be done to relieve the pressure. Exercising is one aspect of it; the other is ‘me time,’ or taking care of yourself to relax.

“Body massages and manicures and pedicures can have that effect,” she says, adding, “Today, skincare sales are doing well because people want something to relieve stress and feel good.” This is where a massage, a facial, or some self-care time comes in handy. People should make time in their schedules — even if it’s only an hour a week — for it.” So, go ahead and set up a home spa to rejuvenate yourself during these trying times.

HOW TO CREATE A CALMING HOME SPA EXPERIENCE

Begin with a foot soak

This is a long-standing practice in traditional Chinese medicine. According to wellness expert Neha Ahuja, “Begin your routine with a foot soak. Use Epsom salts, lavender or chamomile essential oils, and a few drops of your favourite essential oil. The feet are the body’s “supersites,” with some of the highest nerve endings. They must also withstand a great deal and be thoroughly cleaned. As a result, even a 15-minute soak can help reduce fatigue.”

Set the scene: Use dried flowers, candles, and bath bombs

Allow the fragrances to bring you peace and tranquility, from rose and lemongrass incense sticks to green tea bath salts. Aromatherapy candles are a must-have and a joy to use. Choose ylang-ylang and vanilla, which are known to be calming, or orange, spearmint, and eucalyptus, which are known to reduce stress. Bath bombs are another option for unwinding. The round little balls that bubble away when wet add a fizzy touch to the experience while also softening and smoothing the skin.

Choose your essential oils

Use an essential oil in the scrub or in a diffuser. While lavender is calming, orange and bergamot lift the mood, peppermint is a de-stressor, and rosemary reduces fatigue.

Try dry brushing

“Try dry body brushing in a circular motion to get rid of dead skin,” says beauty expert Jashmi Waghela. This can result in soft, supple skin, reduced cellulite, increased blood flow, and lymphatic system detoxification. Begin with the feet and work your way up. Don’t use a hard brush.”

Exfoliate with a coffee or salt scrub

Skin exfoliation helps to unclog pores and remove dirt buildup, and there are many DIY sustainable scrubs available for this purpose. To make a scrub paste, combine coffee grounds, a little sugar, and lime juice. It is said to help with cellulite and skin tanning. Brown sugar scrub with oil, zesty lemon scrub, and honey and sugar scrub are some other options.

Oil massage

Abhyanga, a traditional healing technique, entails applying oil to the skin. “You can try this at home,” Neha says. Mix 1gm saffron with 100gms sweet almond oil and 5ml lavender oil. Give yourself an Abhyanga massage by applying the oil to your feet in circular motions and working your way up to your chest and back. Allow 15 minutes for the oil to soak.”

Try a natural face pack like ubtan

Abhyanga, a traditional healing technique, entails applying oil to the skin. “You can try this at home,” Neha says. Mix 1gm saffron with 100gms sweet almond oil and 5ml lavender oil. Give yourself an Abhyanga massage by applying the oil to your feet in circular motions and working your way up to your chest and back. Allow 15 minutes for the oil to soak.”

Soak in a bathtub
A long soak in the tub will assist you in relaxing. Use herbs, essential oils, and flowers that are appropriate for you. For some fizzy fun, add a bath bomb.

Apply a sheet mask
If you don’t want to use a face pack, a sheet mask is a celebrity favorite! This Korean beauty must-have is reasonably priced. It comes with a pre-soaked serum and should be used on a clean face. You only need to leave it on for 20 minutes and you’re done!

DIY! MAKE YOUR OWN LAVENDER BATH SALT

This is a simple, calming remedy. In a glass bowl, combine Himalayan salt and Epsom salt. Mix in a few drops of lavender essential oil. You can also add chamomile or neroli to taste. Stir it thoroughly with a wooden spoon and store it in an airtight jar. Scoop two spoons of the salt into your warm bath and relax!
