ICC World T20 2021: India names a 15-man squad, with MS Dhoni serving as coach

Team India has named its 15-man squad for the 2021 ICC World T20, which will begin next month in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Virat Kohli, the team’s regular captain, would take the helm once more.

The tournament is organized by India’s Board of Control for Cricket. While the competition was originally scheduled to take place in India, the COVID challenges forced the BCCI and the International Cricket Council to relocate it to the Gulf.

India is in Group 2 of the tournament’s Super 12 stage. It has been grouped with arch-rival Pakistan, Afghanistan, New Zealand, and a couple of qualifiers.

India begins its campaign against Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai, followed by New Zealand on October 31, Dubai, Afghanistan on November 3, Abu Dhabi, a B1 qualifier on November 5, Dubai, and an A2 qualifier on November 6. (November 8, Dubai). The final would take place in Dubai on November 14th.

India is currently ranked second in the ICC T20I Rankings, trailing only England. It was eliminated in the competition’s semi-finals during the previous edition, held in India in 2016 when it was defeated by eventual champion Windies. It would be participating in the tournament for the seventh time, having won the title in its inaugural edition in 2007, led by MS Dhoni. Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced that the former title-winning captain would be the team’s mentor.
