Meanwhile, earlier this week, vaccinologist Dr Gangandeep Kang told the news agency PTI that local flare-ups that are smaller and spread wider across the country may add up to form a third wave of the pandemic, but the scale will be different. Kang told PTI in an interview about the COVID-19 situation in India that after the second wave, perhaps a quarter of the country’s population is still susceptible to the virus.

“So, will we be able to achieve the same numbers and patterns that we saw in the second wave within that quarter? That seems unlikely to me. What we will see are smaller, more widespread flare-ups across the country. Now, if that gathers to form a third wave, which may happen if there is a lot of behaviour change around festivals, the scale will not be anything like what we have seen before “She stated.
