New Delhi: A five-star hotel in Delhi had to pay a high price for a bad haircut! The mental trauma suffered by a woman, a communication professional, and model, as a result of the negligence of a hair professional at the five-star hotel’s salon prompted the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) to take major action against ITC Maurya, ordering it to pay the woman a whopping Rs 2 crore in compensation.
According to a bench consisting of President Justice RK Agrawal and member S M Kantikar, “There is no doubt that the women are extremely conscientious about their hair. They spend a lot of money to keep their hair in good condition. They have an emotional attachment to their hair as well “.
Roy claimed she had a severe mental breakdown, lost her self-esteem, and avoided social activities. “She is a communication professional who is expected to participate in meetings and interactive sessions. However, her lack of hair caused her to lose confidence. She has also lost income as a result of her mental breakdown following the shoddy haircut and subsequent torturous hair treatment. Because of her long hair, Roy has been a model for hair products, according to the bench, and she has modeled for major brands. “However, because she cut her hair against her instructions… she lost her expected assignments and suffered a huge loss, which completely changed her lifestyle and shattered her dream of becoming a top model,” it continued.
According to the commission, “There is no doubt that, upon realizing the error made by its employees, the Opposite Party No 2 offered the complainant a free hair treatment, but the complainant was not attended to as a gesture. As a result, we believe that the complainant is a consumer.”
The bench also stated that she worked as a senior management professional and earned a good living. “She suffered a severe mental breakdown and trauma as a result of the Opposite Party No. 2’s negligence in cutting her hair, and she was unable to concentrate on her job, and she eventually lost her job,” it stated.
Roy stated in her plea that on April 12, 2018, she went to the salon where she had been going since 2004, for “hairstyling to have a clean and groomed appearance before the interview panel.” However, the hairdresser cut off her entire head of hair, leaving only 4 inches at the top and barely touching her shoulders – something she had not requested.
She was called again for hair treatment on May 3, 2018, after complaining to management. Her hair and scalp, however, were completely damaged by the excess ammonia during the treatment, and there was a lot of irritation in the scalp.
