Kerala is experiencing heavy rains, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. Idukki is on red alert, and four districts are on orange alert

On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Red alert for the hilly Idukki district and an Orange alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts due to the possibility of heavy rains.

For the past few days, Kerala has been inundated with heavy rains.

“On October 4, heavy (7-11 cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12-20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely in one or two places in Kerala. On October 5, heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy (20 cm) rainfall is very likely in one or two places. On October 6, heavy rain is very likely in one or two locations “According to the IMD’s bulletin.

Furthermore, the IMD warned that squally weather with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to prevail over the coast, Lakshadweep area, and the southeast Arabian Sea until October 5, and advised fishermen not to venture out into the sea until then.

The southwest monsoon has been active over Kerala, and rain has fallen in most places in Kerala and Lakshadweep, according to the IMD.
A red alert denotes heavy to extremely heavy rains of more than 20 cm in 24 hours; an orange alert denotes very heavy rains of 6 cm to 20 cm; and a yellow alert denotes heavy rains of 6 to 11 cm.
