A young interfaith couple was murdered in Karnataka, and the woman’s family is accused of the crime.

On June 22, a Dalit youth and his lover were assassinated in Karnataka’s Vijaypura district, purportedly because of their relationship. Basavaraj (19) was a native of Saladahalli village, while the girl, who was believed to be around 16, belonged to a Muslim community in the district’s neighbouring Khanapur hamlet in Sindagi taluk. The crime was reported to the police after locals of Saladahalli hamlet discovered the couple’s bodies in a field after they were allegedly murdered by the girl’s family. According to reports, blood-stained stones, allegedly used to murder the couple, were discovered near the crime scene.

“Both families were equally opposed to their connection, and both families had beaten up their children as a result. On Monday, the couple was in a field when one of the girl’s family members learned of it, and he summoned four other family members to apprehend them. In a fit of wrath, the girl’s family tied them both to a tree and began beating them with sticks. They died on the spot as a result of internal injuries “According to IANS, the police stated.

The Kalakeri Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) in the case, and the accused are being sought. Police have charged the girl’s father, Bandagisaba Tambad, and their relatives, Kasimsaba Tambada, Lalesaba Vallebai, Rafik, and Avalpatel, with murder. The complaint was filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for assault, unlawful restraint, rioting, and voluntarily inflicting harm with arms, as well as Section 3 of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

According to the FIR, Basavaraj and the girl had been seeing each other for six to seven months, and their families were opposed to their relationship because they belonged to different communities. According to the FIR, the accused Bandagisaba allegedly instructed Basavaraj not to contact the girl. According to the Kalakeri Inspector, the defendants in the case have fled. According to Vijayapura SP Anupam Agarwal, no arrests have been made in the case, and the search for the culprits is ongoing.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, the United Dalit Forum of Sindagi Taluk presented a memorandum to Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, stating that this was an interfaith massacre. The forum’s Nandakumar Bambekar, who is also the President of the Karnataka Madiga Youth Brigade, later informed reporters that the crime had shocked Dalits in Saladahalli hamlet. He claimed that the police were playing into the hands of the wealthy by listing the girl’s father as the fifth culprit in the FIR rather than the first.
