India records 21,257 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest active caseload in 205 days

New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported 21,257 new COVID-19 infections in India in the last 24 hours on Friday (October 8).

With 271 deaths, the death toll reached 4,50,127. While the active caseload reached 2,40,221, it was the lowest in 205 days, according to the ministry. In the last 24 hours, there has been a decrease of 3,977 cases in the active caseload.

The total number of infections in India has risen to 3,39,15,569. For 14 days in a row, India has seen a daily increase in cases under 30,000. The recovery rate is now at 97.96%, the highest since March 2020.

On Thursday, India reported 22,431 new COVID-19 cases and 318 deaths.

On Thursday, 13,85,706 tests were performed, bringing the total number of tests for COVID-19 detection in the country to 58,00,43,190.

The daily positivity rate, which had been less than 3% for the previous 39 days, was reported at 1.53%. The positivity rate for the week was 1.64 percent. According to the ministry, it has been below 3% for the last 105 days, PTI reported.

The number of people who have recovered from the COVID-19 infection has risen to 3,32,25,221, with a 1.33 percent case fatality rate.

Meanwhile, the vaccination drive has resulted in the administration of 93.17 crore vaccine doses. More than 8.22 crore doses are still available for distribution to states/UTs.
