India records 19,740 COVID-19 cases, while the active count falls to its lowest level in 206 days

New Delhi: India recorded 19,740 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, dropping the country’s active count to its lowest in 206 days, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday (October 9, 2021). The active coronavirus caseload now stands at 2,36,643, accounting for less than 1% of all infections.

According to the health ministry, the weekly positivity rate has now dropped to 1.62 percent, while the daily positivity rate is now at 1.56 percent.

There were also 248 new casualties, bringing India’s total death toll to 4,50,375.

In contrast, 23,070 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,32,48,291. The recovery rate has now reached its highest level since March 2020, standing at 97.98 percent.

Meanwhile, 79,12,202 people received COVID-19 vaccine doses, and 93.99 crore doses have been distributed as part of the Nationwide Vaccination Drive, which began on January 16 of this year.
