Employees of DD and AIR in Kerala are protesting the suspension of terrestrial services

Thiruvannathapuram: Employees of Doordarshan and All India Radio are protesting the shutdown of terrestrial services under the banner of the Association of Akashvani and Doordarshan Engineering Employees (AADEE).

AIR and Doordarshan are national public service broadcasters that operate under Prasar Bharati Act Section 12. Both organisations were never established as profit-making entities by the honourable Parliament or successive governments,” Anil Kumar Puthenpurayil, AADEE’s Kerala State Organising Secretary, told IANS.
The AADEE claimed that Prasar Bharati is attempting to shut down Doordarshan and All India Radio’s terrestrial services because they are not profitable. According to the report, Prasar Bharati issued orders on September 13 to close 412 Doordarshan transmitters across the country, including 11 in Kerala.

According to union leaders, if the order is carried out, only the Thiruvananthapuram centre of Doordarshan will be operational.
Puthenpurayil stated that the union leaders led by him have already met with Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader and Wayanad MP, K. Sudhakaran, state Congress President, K. Sudhakaran, BJP state chief, K. Surendran, and other senior leaders across party lines.
The AIR and DD Employees Association has announced that it will hold protest marches across the country in opposition to the shutdown of Doordarshan and AIR terrestrial services.
