Kerala Power Tariffs Revised: Average 20 Paise Hike per Unit, Exemption for Domestic Users

The power tariffs in Kerala have been revised, leading to an average increase of 20 paise per unit. The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission issued an interim order, implementing the hike from November 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. It’s important to note that this tariff adjustment does not impact domestic consumers using up to 40 units (BPL).

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) had initially proposed a hike of 40.6 paise per unit. However, the regulatory commission decided to implement a slightly lower increase of 20 paise per unit. The decision to raise tariffs comes as an effort to compensate for the deficit in the 2023-24 financial year. The revised fixed charges for domestic users have also been adjusted accordingly.

While the tariff revision aims to bridge the financial gap, it underscores the importance of energy conservation and efficient usage, especially for domestic consumers. The revised rates will reflect in the upcoming electricity bills for consumers in Kerala, necessitating awareness and prudent usage to manage household expenses effectively.
