Amazon refunds Rs70,000 to an Aluva resident who received soap instead of an Apple phone

Kochi: Amazon has finally refunded the full amount to the Aluva resident who received dishwashing soap and a Rs 5 coin when ordering an Apple iPhone-12 worth Rs 70,900.

Noorul Ameen, an Aluva native, confirmed that the amount he paid with an Amason pay-card was credited to his account. Aluva police investigated the case, which aided Ameen in recovering the money as soon as possible.

Noorul Ameen purchased the iPhone on October 12 through Amazon’s trusted seller Appario, using his credit card as an EMI. The phone, which had been dispatched from Hyderabad, was halted in Salem for a day. The buyer, suspicious of this, unboxed it in front of the delivery boy.

Noorul Ameen is a frequent Amazon shopper. A product from Hyderabad will usually arrive in Kochi within two days. This time, however, it took three days. He’d already heard about the scam of keeping soap instead of an iPhone in the box. As a result, he was wary and decided to unbox in front of the delivery boy and shoot it as well.

The box contained a Vim bar and another piece of it, as well as a Rs 5 coin. The items in the box had the similar weight of a phone, Noorul Ameen told.

He immediately called Amazon customer care and they sent him a mail asking for the details of the purchase. He registered a complaint at the police station too.

Last month, an engineering student from Paravur received newspapers after he had ordered a laptop worth Rs 1.25 lakhs. An investigation in this regard has been progressing.
