Price increase prompts Kerala’s private bus operators to call an indefinite strike

Kozhikode: Citing skyrocketing diesel prices, private bus operators in Kerala have called for an indefinite strike beginning November 9. According to the bus operators, operating the buses in the current situation is inefficient, and they want the government to step in.

The operators are batting for a variety of demands. The minimum fare should be increased from Rs 8 to Rs 12. Similarly, the student concession fare should have a minimum charge of Rs 6. They demand that the fare per kilometre be increased by Rs 1.

During the Covid-19 lockdowns, bus companies across the state suffered massive losses. The limit on the number of passengers remains in effect.

The government is expected to meet with the organisations.
