Six passengers from ‘at risk’ countries tested positive for COVID-19 in India, posing an Omicron threat

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry announced on Wednesday that six passengers travelling from “at risk” countries had tested positive for COVID-19, amid a new coronavirus variant Omicron scare.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, between midnight and 4 p.m. today, 3476 passengers from “at risk” countries boarded 11 international flights that landed at various airports across the country, with the exception of Lucknow.

“All 3476 passengers were given RT PCR tests, and only six were found to be COVID-19 positive. COVID-19 positive passengers’ samples were sent to INSACOG labs for Whole Genomic Sequencing. The Indian government is keeping a close eye on the situation and is assisting states and union territories in their fight against the pandemic using a “whole-of-government” approach “According to the ministry.

European countries, including the United Kingdom, are included in the ‘at-risk’ category, along with South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Israel.

Given the gravity of Omicron, the Delhi Government has mandated that additional district magistrates (ADMs) and sub-district magistrates (SDMs) from various districts at the airport strictly enforce the DDMA order. According to this order, from December 1, 2021 to May 15, 2022, the ADM and SDM of various districts, along with supporting staff, will work the day-night shift at the airport.
