CDS General Bipin Rawat’s wife will be cremated in Delhi Cantt on Friday, and Rajnath Singh will brief Parliament on the chopper crash

The cremation of Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat, who were among the 13 killed in a military helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu, will take place on Friday at Delhi Cantonment (December 8).

According to ANI, the CDS and his wife’s mortal remains arrived in Delhi on a military plane on Thursday evening. On Friday, the bodies will be brought to Rawat’s house in the national capital, where people will be able to pay their last respects from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

After 2 pm, a funeral procession will start from Kamraj Marg to Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment.

Military Adviser to the Chief of Defence Staff Brig LS Lidder, staff officer Lt Col Harjinder Singh, Wg Cdr PS Chauhan, Sqn Ldr K Singh, JWO Das, JWO Pradeep A, Havildar Satpal, Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitender Kumar, Lance Naik Vivek Kumar, and Lance Naik Sai Teja were among those killed in the IAF chopper crash.

According to the IAF, the lone survivor, Group Captain Varun Singh, is currently being treated at a military hospital in Wellington.

 

 

The IAF’s Mi17V5 chopper, carrying Rawat, his wife, and 12 defence personnel, took off from Sulur airbase around 11.45 a.m. for the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, but crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu around 12.20 p.m. General Rawat was on his way to Wellington’s Defence Services Staff College to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying tribute to CDS General Rawat and the other victims of the crash. “I am deeply saddened by the helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu that claimed the lives of Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife, and other Armed Forces personnel. They did their best to serve India. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families “The Prime Minister tweeted.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will brief Parliament on Friday on the crash of the military chopper carrying Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and 13 other people. After the IAF helicopter carrying him and some senior defence officers crashed near Coonor in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, the Defence Minister paid a visit to CDS Rawat’s residence here.

The wife of CDS Rawat accompanied him. The incident has been reported to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the Defence Minister. The IAF has launched an investigation into the accident.
