Vietnam will reopen to international travellers on December 15th

Vietnam intends to reintroduce international flights on December 15. The country’s Ministry of Transport has proposed resuming international passenger flights to Vietnam on a trial basis. With this proposal, a report has been submitted to the Prime Minister, and reports indicate that the resumption of flights will take place in two stages.

The first phase, according to reports, will last two weeks and will connect flights between Vietnam and highly secure destinations such as Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Bangkok, Beijing, Vientiane, Singapore, Phnom Penh, and either San Francisco or Los Angeles. The flights will connect to Vietnam’s international airports of Hanoi’s Noi Bai and Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat.

There will be four flights per week each way, with approximately 14000 passengers expected to visit Vietnam each week.

The second phase will last one month, beginning in January 2022.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has also proposed flights to Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Paris, Frankfurt, Sydney, and Moscow. Other international airports in Vietnam, such as Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Van Don, and Cam Ranh, are also proposed to host flights in the second phase of flight resumption.

The frequency of flights will eventually be increased to seven per week. After the second phase of reopening, it is expected that 40000 passengers will enter Vietnam each week. Quarantine rules are expected to be gradually lifted for those who have been fully vaccinated, recovered from the disease, or have a COVID 19 test result that is negative.
