Breaking: Delhi has reported its second Omicron case

The second case of the Omicron variant has been reported in Delhi. The individual was fully vaccinated and was traveling from Zimbabwe. The individual had also visited South Africa, according to the Delhi government.

So far, 33 Omicron cases have been reported in India, with 17 in Maharashtra, nine in Rajasthan, three in Gujarat, two in Karnataka, and now two in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the country recorded 7,992 new COVID-19 cases and 393 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total caseload to 3,46,682,736 and the total death toll to 4,75,128, according to Ministry of Health data released on Saturday (December 11, 2021). Today, the country also recorded 9,265 recoveries.

Maharashtra reported seven new cases of Omicron yesterday (December 10), including one in a toddler. Three of the seven cases were reported in Mumbai, with the remaining four coming from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Three men, ages 48, 25 and 37, had returned from Tanzania, the United Kingdom, and South Africa, respectively, while four other patients are contacts of Nigerian women infected with the new variant on December 6. Four of the seven are asymptomatic, while three have mild symptoms. Four of the new cases are fully vaccinated, one has received a single dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and one is unvaccinated. The toddler is ineligible for immunization.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has observed a decline in public health and social measure compliance as vaccination rates rise, according to PIB. The Ministry of Health has warned Indian citizens to strictly adhere to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour in order to avoid a surge in cases as seen in European countries.
