BTS give heartfelt speech after receiving Variety’s Record of the Year Award

Seoul: After winning record of the year for ‘Butter,’ South Korean super K-pop band BTS delivered a heartfelt video speech at Variety’s Hitmakers event. RM accepted the award on Saturday, reflecting on what the success of the hit song means to them and describing what it was like to perform their first shows since 2019 this week.

“We’d like to thank Variety for this incredible honor,” RM said, according to Variety.

“We have a soft spot in our hearts for butter. During the pandemic’s uncertain and turbulent times, we took time to reflect on our past and present and decided to release ‘Butter’ in the hopes of lifting spirits.”

“The song became an anchor for us to enjoy what we could right now while moving forward. We just finished our first in-person concert in two years, especially since the pandemic, and it truly feels like the start of a new chapter.”

BTS recently sold out four sold-out shows at LA’s SoFi Stadium, attracting 70,000 fans each night.

The first night of the concerts, according to Variety’s Angelique Jackson, was “rife with confetti, smoke, pyrotechnics, and, of course, the smoothest of dance moves.”

Jungkook also stated: “It means a lot to us that ‘Butter’ was named record of the year. We simply wanted to share fun, positive energy with as many people as possible, and that is what ‘Butter’ represents for BTS.”

J-Hope went on to congratulate all of the other Hitmakers honorees, saying: “We regret that we were unable to attend in person. Congratulations to everyone, and I hope you have a wonderful day.”
