The UK has the highest daily increase in Omicron cases, with 633 new infections

London: With 633 Omicron cases, the United Kingdom experienced its highest daily increase since the COVID-19 variant was discovered in the country.

According to British health officials, there are 1,898 Omicron variant cases in the country. According to Xinhua, the UK health security agency (UKHSA) estimates that if Omicron continues to grow at its current rate, the variant will become the dominant strain, accounting for more than half of all COVID-19 infections in the country by mid-December.

It is also predicted that if current trends continue, Britain will have more than one million Omicron infections by the end of this month.

The latest data comes as experts warn that Omicron could cause 25,000 to 75,000 deaths in England by the end of April if no additional measures are implemented, according to Xinhua.

According to official figures, Britain reported 54,073 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 10,771,444.

A further 132 coronavirus-related deaths were also reported in the country.

According to Xinhua, the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United Kingdom is now 146,387, with 7,413 COVID-19 patients still hospitalised.

According to the most recent figures, more than 89% of people aged 12 and over in the United Kingdom have received their first dose of vaccine, and more than 81% have received both doses.

More than 39% have had booster shots or the third dose of a coronavirus vaccine.
