Delhi’s air quality remains’very poor,’ and is expected to worsen further
New Delhi: Due to low wind speed and temperatures, Delhi’s air quality remained in the’very poor’ category on Tuesday (December 14, 2021) morning.
The air quality index (AQI) in the national capital is expected to worsen further, according to authorities.
At 7 a.m., Delhi’s overall AQI was 328, according to SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research).
An AQI of zero to 50 is considered “good,” 51 to 100 “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 “moderate,” 201 to 300 “poor,” 301 to 400 “very poor,” and 401 to 500 “severe.”
SAFAR, the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ air quality forecast agency, predicted on Monday that moderate wind speeds and partly cloudy conditions would keep air quality in the “lower” end of the “very poor” range for the next two days.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated that the ban on construction and truck entry, with the exception of CNG, e-trucks, and those engaged in essential services, will remain in effect until further orders are issued due to a forecast of further deterioration of air quality in the national capital.

The government will review the construction ban on December 16, Rai said after meeting with officials from the relevant departments.
The minister stated that the education department has sent a proposal to the environment department requesting the immediate reopening of schools, coaching centres, and colleges for students in Class 6 and above.
The education department has proposed reopening schools for children in Class 5 and below on December 20, he said.
