This is how Indian states are preparing for the threat of Omicron variants

The World Health Organization renamed the coronavirus B.1.1.529 strain that emerged from South Africa “Omicron.” Despite the fact that cases had been declining until now, the new variant has caused concern in many countries. “In light of the surge in COVID-19 cases elsewhere in the world and the discovery of a new variant of concern Omicron, WHO today appealed to countries in the South-East Asia Region to scale up surveillance, strengthen public health and social measures, and increase vaccination coverage,” WHO said, according to ANI.

States in India have begun to take the necessary precautions in response to the threat posed by the Omicron COVID-19 variant. According to reports, the Kerala government declared a vigil in the southern state on Saturday due to the presence of Omicron. However, state officials added that there is currently no cause for concern in the state.

Meanwhile, Mumbai International Airport has issued guidelines for passengers arriving from South Africa. According to a report in The Mint, Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar stated that the South African visitors will be quarantined. “Because there is an increased risk of coronavirus in foreign countries,” she explained, “those coming from outside will have to undergo genome tests.”

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to halt flights from countries affected by the new COVID-19 variant. “I urge the Hon’ble Prime Minister to halt flights from the countries affected by the new variant. Our country has recovered from Corona with great difficulty. We must do everything in our power to keep this new variant from entering India “CM Kejriwal took to Twitter.

The Gujarat government has also made RT-PCR testing mandatory for passengers arriving at the airport from Europe, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and a few other countries.
