Are you taking your partner for granted? Here are four ways to find out

Hundreds of unread messages, tens of missed calls, and a slew of false promises. If this is all you give in a relationship, chances are you’re taking your partner for granted. While it may not be obvious to you, this could have a serious impact on your relationship to the point where your partner decides to leave it.

Here are four ways to determine whether you, too, are unintentionally taking your partner for granted.

You don’t devote time to your partner.

If your better half requests your time and you ignore their request because you know they aren’t going anywhere, this is evidence that you are taking your partner for granted. This could be due to a variety of factors, such as being too busy to be in a relationship or simply not wanting to be in one. In any case, if you are doing it unintentionally, it is preferable that you recognise and address it as soon as possible.

You decide to cancel all of their plans.

If you end up cancelling your partner’s plans for a romantic dinner date or a trip to the mall for shopping, it shows that you are taking them for granted. Respect your partner’s decision and accompany them on dates. Spend some time together; not only will this strengthen your relationship, but it will also make your partner feel valued and loved.

They are not included in your priority list.

If your priority list is completely full, it could be because you take your man or woman for granted. If he or she never complains and is content with how you treat them, you should feel more responsible to keep them content. Be with them through thick and thin, and remember that it is love that keeps them close to you.

You prefer them to others.

If a call from a friend is more important to you than your partner’s numerous missed calls, you may be taking him or her for granted. While this may not be the case every time, as there may be other reasons, such as a friend in need of your assistance, if this is a ritual, you should change it.

If you can relate to either of the items listed above, it’s time to admit your mistake and avoid making the same, if not more, mistakes in the future.
