Employees at Google may lose pay or be fired if they do not comply with vaccination requirements: report

According to internal documents obtained by CNBC, Google has informed its employees that if they do not comply with its Covid-19 immunization policy, they may lose their jobs. Employees had until December 3 to disclose their vaccination status, submit proof of immunization, or request a medical or religious exemption, according to a message sent by leadership. Following that date, the company stated that it will contact employees who had not declared their status or who were unvaccinated, as well as those whose exemption requests had been denied. Employees who fail to meet immunization requirements by the January 18 deadline will be placed on “paid administrative leave” for 30 days, according to sources. They will then be placed on “unpaid personal leave” for up to six months before being fired.

According to a Google spokesman, vaccination requirements are one of the most important ways to keep our employees safe and our services running. While other IT sectors continue to postpone return-to-work plans and businesses of all sizes plan for a more flexible future, Google has encouraged its employees to visit physical offices three times per week.

The Biden administration has directed that all U.S. businesses with 100 or more employees ensure that their employees have been fully vaccinated or are regularly tested for Covid-19 by January 18. A federal court issued a stay of execution in early November, effectively halting the administration’s efforts. Nonetheless, Google has demanded that its more than 150,000 employees upload their vaccination status to its internal systems, whether or not they intend to come into the office, and the company has stated that it will comply with Biden’s request.
