Today and tomorrow are complete lockdowns; an expert committee will analyse relaxation measures

Thiruvananthapuram: On Saturday and Sunday, the state will be completely shut down. Only shops selling necessities and other necessities are permitted to open. The Kerala Books and Publication Society has been given special consideration as textbook printing begins.

The restrictions and relaxations devised based on the test positivity rate will be implemented beginning Monday. The COVID review meeting, presided over by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, decided that areas with a high number of COVID patients should be divided into special clusters, and strict measures should be implemented to maintain control in these areas.

Instructions for studying relaxations

Thiruvananthapuram: The chief minister is disappointed that despite strict restrictions, the test positivity rate has not been brought under control. The CM has given a strict mandate to an expert committee to investigate the relaxation measures. He has instructed the chief secretary and the expert committee to submit instructions by Wednesday. He also stated that the conditions that contribute to the spread of the disease during Onam must be avoided.

There was some debate about whether the relaxations based on test positivity rate were necessary and whether they should be continued. However, it was decided last week that the restrictions would be implemented in accordance with the TPR.
