In a recent study, Facebook, now Meta, was dubbed the “Worst Company of 2021”

According to Yahoo Finance, Meta, Facebook’s parent company, was named the Worst Company of the Year (2021). According to the story, a “open-ended” survey with 1,541 respondents was published on Yahoo Finance on December 4 and 5. Although Facebook received 8% of the write-in votes, users disliked the Robinhood trading app as well. Respondents also blasted Nikola, the electric truck startup voted the worst business in the world by the same publication last year.

“Facebook has had its share of scandals this year,” according to Yahoo Finance. When Meta-owned WhatsApp introduced a new privacy policy in January, the messaging app became mired in a massive scandal (Terms of Service). WhatsApp has indicated that it will collect user data and share it with third-party apps in order to improve the customer experience. However, the app gave users little choice but later amended its policy under stress.

Similarly, the organization came under heightened scrutiny after whistleblower and former Facebook employee Frances Haugen published a cache of internal documents revealing the company’s problematic practices. It was determined that Meta-owned Instagram had a negative impact on adolescent females, but the company did little to address the problem.

Yahoo Finance even noted that, at the same time, other critics, particularly conservatives, say that Facebook over-policed its platform’s speech and silenced their views. Critics also accuse Facebook and other social media corporations of failing to prevent hate speech, which they say contributed to the Capitol Building violence. However, about 30% of Yahoo Finance readers believe Facebook or Meta may be redeemed. One commenter suggested that the firm issue a formal apology for their negligence and donate a major amount of its profits to charity to help repair the harm.

Respondents, on the other hand, chose Microsoft as the Company of the Year (2021). This year, the company lead by Satya Nadella broke through the trillion-dollar barrier and made substantial advances. The most famous of these is the Windows 11 operating system upgrade, which will replace Windows 10.
