Former India pacer MS Dhoni has been appointed as Team India’s coach to oversee Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri

MS Dhoni, the former India captain and captain of the Chennai Super Kings, was appointed as the ‘Team Mentor’ for the T20 World Cup 2021 immediately following the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. While cricket fans applauded the decision, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had other plans. /

The T20 World Cup 2021 was the final tournament for Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri, the captain and coach duo. Shastri’s tenure as India’s head coach was coming to an end, and Kohli had already announced that he would no longer captain the T20I team after the World Cup.g

The reason for appointing Dhoni as team’s mentor was revealed by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, who stated that with an impeccable record in ICC tournaments, Dhoni’s wisdom and wealth of knowledge would promise to benefit Indian cricket.

Former India pacer Atul Wassan, on the other hand, revealed that Dhoni was brought in to ensure that Kohli and Shastri did not have their way with the team. “I’ll tell you what. “Dhoni was brought in to provide some balance because everyone had the impression that Virat and Ravi Shastri were completely handling, selecting, and managing whoever they wanted to play,” Wassan told CNN-News18.

“They were in charge of Indian cricket.” So they (BCCI) decided that someone with some kind of value should come in and simply monitor that there is a balance. “I think they made a lot of mistakes in the World Cup,” Wassan added.

Wassan commented on the Kohli captaincy saga, saying that the BCCI and selectors did nothing wrong in naming Rohit Sharma as the new ODI captain. “In India, once you’ve played a lot of cricket and become a demi-god, the player expects some lineage, some special treatment.” This system must be altered.

“Players must stop feeling low or let down if they are not gelling well with the organisation and have a better option.” “Don’t expect too much from the board because once you get a tap on the shoulder, you have to accept it as a man,” he added.
