Former MLA AV Gopinath resigns from Congress in an emotional speech

In Kerala, Congress leader AV Gopinath announced his departure from the party after over 50 years of service. Gopinath, who called a press conference on Monday, said he made the decision after much deliberation and realized he was an “obstacle” to the party’s success. The declaration came a day after Congress unveiled the names of Kerala’s 14 new district presidents. According to reports, Gopinath’s name was among those considered for the position of Palakkad District Congress Committee (DCC) president, but A Thankappan was ultimately picked. Gopinath was also a former Member of the Legislative Assembly from Alathur in Palakkad, a former panchayat president of Peringottukurissi, and a former Palakkad DCC president. Prior to his withdrawal from the party’s primary membership, he was also a member of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

The party suspended two other Congress leaders on Saturday after they publicly expressed their displeasure with the DCC presidents’ list. “I want to put any doubts, preconceptions, and rumors to rest. For the past 50 years, I’ve had a soft spot in my heart for the Indian National Congress (INC). As an ordinary member of the party, I loved Congress more than my family. However, it is not right to be an impediment to the party’s progress. As a result, I’m quitting my primary membership. “I am no longer a Congressman as of today,” Gopinath remarked, to applause from his fans.

A number of Peringottukurissi panchayat members were outside, cheering him on, later informing the reporters that they will always support Gopinath. They praised his efforts on behalf of the panchayat and the party. According to The Hindu, he was promised the position of DCC president after raising a revolt banner ahead of the State Assembly elections in April, alleging that he was being neglected by the party.

In his Monday meeting, Gopinath, on the other hand, frequently expressed his admiration and admiration for party leaders ranging from KPCC president K Sudhakaran to veterans like as Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala. But the leader he regards as god is the late Karunakaran, Gopinath remarked, to another round of applause from his fans.

There were rumors that he was planning to join the Communist Party of India (Marxist) – CPI(M), the party that leads the state’s ruling Left Democratic Front. Gopinath denied any imminent action, saying he needed time to let Congress out of his heart before considering anything else. He did, however, praise Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, describing him as a bold leader.
