Kerala is the best-performing state in the NITI Aayog’s Health Index, while Uttar Pradesh is the worst

According to the fourth Health Index released by Niti Aayog, Kerala has again emerged as the top-ranking state in terms of overall health performance among larger states, while Uttar Pradesh is the worst.

The fourth round of the Health Index considered the years 2019-20. (reference year).

“The Health Index is a step towards helping States and UTs develop robust healthcare systems, track progress on health outcomes, build healthy competition, and encourage cross-learning,” said the NITI Aayog in a tweet.

According to the government think tank’s report, Tamil Nadu and Telangana have emerged as the second and third best performers on health parameters, respectively.

According to the report, Uttar Pradesh ranked first in terms of incremental performance, with the highest incremental change from the base year (2018-19) to the reference year (2019-20).

Mizoram emerged as the best performer among smaller states in both overall and incremental performance, while Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir ranked among the bottom UTs in terms of overall performance but emerged as the best performer in terms of incremental performance.

The World Bank provided technical assistance to the report, which was prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
