Day 2 of the India vs. South Africa 2021-22 Boxing Day Test has been rained out due to heavy rains

On Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test between India and South Africa for the Freedom Trophy 2021-22, it was one-way traffic. However, there was no play on Day 2 due to persistent rains that washed out the entire day’s play. Day 3 is expected to be better, with some play expected.

Prior to the start of the Test, the weather forecast was not promising. While rain and overcast clouds were expected on Day 1, the weather was bright and shiny throughout, making play entirely possible. The rain gods, on the other hand, stayed true to the heavy rain forecast for Day 2.

The forecast for the next few days is somewhat reassuring. Although rain is unlikely to cause major disruptions, it is expected to remain cloudy throughout, with poor lighting possibly playing a role. Day 4 is supposed to be a little glitzy. On Day 5, however, things could be just as gloomy as they were on Day 2, with heavy rains expected.

It will be interesting to see what Virat Kohli and company plan to do next. While India is currently 272/3, an additional 100 runs would be ideal, followed by a declaration. Also, with the host appearing rusty with the ball, the batters could be the same, while the brutal Indian bowling attack can go all guns blazing at the batters. Technically, both sides have a few days to complete this Test.

Summary of the game
The openers made a commendable start after winning the toss and electing to bat. While opener Mayank Agarwal scored 60 before being caught leg-before by pacer Ngidi, Chetweshwar Pujara’s nightmare run continued as he was trapped leg-before by the same man. Nonetheless, fellow opener KL Rahul is batting over 100, and Ajinkya Rahane is backing him up. Meanwhile, Kohli might be able to manage 35.
IND 157/2 (Mayank- 60; Rahul- 110*; Ngidi- 3/44) vs SA.
