Dileep writes to the DGP, requesting that the investigation into the 2017 sexual assault case be halted

In the latest development in the Kerala actor sexual assault case, actor Dileep, who is accused of masterminding the 2017 case, has written to the Director-General of Police requesting that the case not be investigated further. In normal cases, accused persons request a fair trial; however, Dileep has strangely requested that the DGP instruct his subordinates to withdraw a petition filed in court requesting further investigation. The Kerala police had requested a stay of proceedings while they conduct an additional investigation into the allegations made against Dileep by Balachandrakumar, a filmmaker.

Dileep has made allegations against Deputy Superintendent of Police Baiju Paulose, an investigating officer in the case, in his petition to the DGP, claiming that the latter has conspired against him in relation to the claims made by Balachandrakumar on December 25. In an interview with Reporter Live, Balachandrakumar stated that Dileep knew accused number one Pulsar Suni well and had asked Balachandrakumar not to reveal this information to the police.

Dileep, who appears to be fairly confident in the outcome of the trial, has accused Baiju Poulose of propping up Balachandrakumar at the last minute in order to save his reputation. “The above officer appears to have realized by sitting in Court throughout the examination of witnesses that the defense could successfully bring on record the falsity of allegations leveled against the petitioner in his final report and dishonest acts of himself and his team during the investigation is exposed during the trial,” according to the petition. It appears that the officer is afraid that if the presiding officer, who recorded the testimony of 202 witnesses, is allowed to render a decision in the case, it will jeopardize his career, which he has purposefully built up through the use of false propaganda.

Meanwhile, Balachandrakumar has been making serious allegations against Dileep, including that the actor had visuals of the sexual assault before he and his lawyers watched it at the magistrate’s chamber in December 2017. Furthermore, Balachandrakumar claimed that the original clip’s audio was enhanced for Dileep’s viewing.

Dileep claimed in his petition to the police that Baiju Paulose and other police officials instructed Balachandrakumar on what to say, and that his interview was intentionally aired on Reporter Live a few days before the announcement of Dileep’s new film, in order to tarnish his image. In the petition, the accused actor claims that Baiju Paulose called Balachandrakumar as a witness because “all the witnesses to prove his (Baiju Paulose) conclusions incorporated in the final report had exhausted and his stock of witnesses to prove the false allegations against the petitioner (Dileep) had run out.”

In the petition, the accused stated that he had already approached the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the investigation officer.

He also requested that the DGP direct the investigating officer to withdraw the petition seeking a re-investigation of the case. “Humbly request that appropriate investigation and stringent action be taken against Baiju Paulose, and necessary orders be issued directing the officer to withdraw the unauthorized petition filed seeking permission to further investigate the case,” Dileep wrote.

Earlier, the survivor wrote to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, expressing her grief over the resignation of Public Prosecutor Anilkumar last week. He was the case’s second Public Prosecutor to resign.
