Kerala High Court Expresses Displeasure Over Government’s Inaction on Illegal Flex Boards and Hoardings

The Kerala High Court has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Kerala government’s lack of action in removing illegal flex boards and hoardings despite a previous ruling prohibiting their use.

Justice Devan Ramachandran verbally criticized the government, stating that it has not taken adequate measures to eliminate these unauthorized advertisements from public spaces. The court was addressing petitions aimed at restraining the use of such illegal flex boards and hoardings. Sarada G Muraleedharan IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of the Local Self Government Department, represented the government during the hearing.

During the proceedings, the court questioned the possibility of imposing a fine of Rs 5000 on individuals or entities installing illegal flex boards and hoardings. The government informed the court that they had already removed 40 lakh illegal hoardings. Additionally, the court instructed the government to provide details regarding the fines imposed on those violating the rules.

Additional Advocate General Ashok M. Cherian assured the court that the government would investigate the matter concerning the imposition of fines, indicating a willingness to address the issue promptly. The court’s displeasure underscores the urgency for the government to take decisive action in enforcing the ban on illegal flex boards and hoardings, ensuring cleaner and more regulated public spaces in the state.
