New Delhi: The number of daily COVID-19 cases in India has continued to rise, with the country recording 58,097 new infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday (January 5, 2022) morning.

The daily positivity rate has now risen to 4.18 percent, while the weekly positivity rate has risen to 2.60 percent.

As a result, the number of active coronavirus cases in the country has increased to 2,14,004.

India’s death toll has also risen by 534 in the last 24 hours, to 4,82,551.

On Tuesday, the Omicron tally surpassed 2,000 and is now found in 24 states and UTs. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 828 of the 2,135 Omicron infections in India have been discharged, recovered, or migrated.
