Kerala reports 41,668 new COVID19 cases, TPR at 43.76%

Kerala reported 41,668 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity rate also continued to rise and touched 43.76 per cent. The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram- 7,896, Ernakulam-7,339, Kozhikode-4,143, Thrissur- 3,667, Kottayam-3,182, Kollam-2,660, Palakkad-2,345, Malappuram-2,148, Kannur-2,015, Alappuzha-1,798, Pathanamthitta-1,708, Idukki-1,354, Wayanad- 850 and Kasaragod-563.

A total of 95,218 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 3,55,438 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 3,47,666 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 7,772 people are in hospitals. 1,139 people were taken to hospitals on Friday. Among the 2,23,548 active Covid cases reported, only 3% of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals. Along with 33 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 73 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 51,607 in the state. 139 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 36,693 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 4,468 patients remains unidentified. 368 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, 17,053 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-2318, Kollam-1259, Pathanamthitta-870, Alappuzha-585, Kottayam-966, Idukki-317, Ernakulam-4888, Thrissur-1432, Palakkad-551, Malappuram-796, Kozhikode-2434, Wayanad-89, Kannur-440 and Kasaragod-108. 52,76,647 people were recovered from the disease so far.
