Vizhinjam Port Aims to Surpass Singapore, Set to Handle One Million Containers Annually, Says Kerala CM

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has hailed the international deep water multipurpose seaport at Vizhinjam as a transformative development for the state. He announced the port’s ambitious goal of handling one million containers annually, surpassing even Singapore. Vijayan welcomed the inaugural vessel, ‘Zhen Hua 15,’ which arrived at the port carrying cranes from China.

Despite delays due to adverse weather conditions, the vessel’s arrival marked a significant milestone for the Rs 7,700 crore deep-water international port project. The port, developed under a public-private partnership with Adani Group, is set to become one of the world’s largest ports upon completion, attracting investments and generating job opportunities. Despite past challenges related to land acquisition, the port’s progress signifies a major leap forward for Kerala’s infrastructure and development efforts.
