Kerala reports 42,677 fresh COVID cases, death toll touches 56,701; TPR at 37.23 per cent

Kerala reports 42,677 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity was recorded as 37.23 per cent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-7055 Thiruvananthapuram- 5264, Kottayam-4303, Kollam-3633, Pathanamthitta-3385, Thrissur-3186, Alappuzha-3010, Kozhikode-2891, Malappuram-2380, Palakkad-1972, Idukki-1710, Kannur-1670, Wayanad-1504 and Kasaragod-714.

During the last 24 hours, 1,14,610 samples were tested across the state. 5,08,146 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 4,97,025 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 11,121 people are in hospitals. 1,144 people were taken to hospitals on Thursday. Among the 3,69,073 active Covid cases reported, only 3 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 36 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 441 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 124 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 56,701 in the state. Among the new patients, 202 were returned from outside the state. 39,118 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 2,913 patients remains unidentified. 444 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 50,821 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-1971, Kollam-2722, Pathanamthitta-5072, Alappuzha-2459, Kottayam-4204, Idukki-1026, Ernakulam-14478, Thrissur-3912, Palakkad-2463, Malappuram-2841, Kozhikode-4921, Wayanad-1374, Kannur-2152, and Kasaragod-1046. 57,45,912 people were recovered from the disease so far.
