Stalemate in Talks Between Farmers and Union Ministers, Protest to Continue

Following a meeting between farmer union leaders and Union Ministers that concluded without a breakthrough, Union Minister Arjun Munda expressed hope for a resolution through dialogue. The talks aimed to address various demands raised by the protesting farmers, including a separate law for Minimum Support Price (MSP), withdrawal of police cases, and debt waivers. While no immediate consensus was reached, Munda highlighted a broad agreement on several contentious issues and suggested forming committees for permanent solutions.

Munda emphasized the government’s commitment to dialogue and protecting the rights of farmers and the general public. The ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest, scheduled by farmers, is set to proceed as planned on Tuesday, with a march towards the national capital at 10 am. Despite the prolonged discussions and the absence of concrete government proposals, farmer union leaders asserted that their demands are commitments made by the government, and the protest will continue until an acceptable offer is presented.

Security measures have been heightened in anticipation of the march, with Delhi Police imposing a ban on public meetings for a month and restricting the movement of tractors and trolleys across borders. While the government expressed optimism about reaching a solution soon, the farmers maintain their commitment to the protest until their demands are adequately addressed.
