Kerala reports 26,729 new COVID cases, death toll touches 58,255

Kerala reported 26,729 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity was recorded as 30.34 per cent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-3989, Thiruvananthapuram- 3564, Thrissur-2554, Kottayam-2529,Kollam-2309,Kozhikode-2071, Malappuram-1639, Alappuzha-1609, Kannur-1442,Pathanamthitta-1307, Palakkad-1215, Idukki-1213, Wayanad-825 and Kasaragod-463.

A total of 88,098 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 5, 01,814 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 4,92,364 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 9450 people are in hospitals.927 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday. Among the 3,29,348 active Covid cases reported, only 3 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 22 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 378 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 115 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 58,255 in the state. 119 were returned from outside the state. 25,337 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1083 patients remains unidentified. 190 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 49,261 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-4871, Kollam-6195, Pathanamthitta-2007, Alappuzha-2196, Kottayam-3206, Idukki-1985, Ernakulam-10794, Thrissur-3982, Palakkad-2729, Malappuram-2680, Kozhikode-3856, Wayanad-1594, Kannur-1976, and Kasaragod-1190. 58,83,023 people were recovered from the disease so far.
