‘Slight relief’ Kerala reports 18,420 new COVID cases on Thursday

Despite the decline of covid cases Kerala reported 18,420 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity was recorded as 22.3 per cent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-3012, Thiruvananthapuram- 1999, Kottayam-1749, Kollam-1656, Thrissur-1532, Kozhikode-1477, Malappuram-1234, Idukki-1091, Alappuzha-1025, Pathanamthitta-972, Kannur-950, Palakkad-858, Wayanad-638 and Kasaragod-227.

A total of 82,575 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 3,88,601 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 3,80,753 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 7848 people are in hospitals. 1205 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday. Among the 2,32,980 active Covid cases reported, only 3.4 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 20 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 168 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 153 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 61,134 in the state.

Among the new patients, 107 were returned from outside the state. 17,048 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1114 patients remains unidentified. 151 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, 43,286 recoveries were also reported in the state.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-3778, Kollam-1919, Pathanamthitta-1098, Alappuzha-2969, Kottayam-3837, Idukki-1458, Ernakulam-9691, Thrissur-5283, Palakkad-2539, Malappuram-3068, Kozhikode-2827, Wayanad-1579, Kannur-1670, and Kasaragod-670. 60,70,170 people were recovered from the disease so far.
