Kerala reports 12,223 new COVID cases, 21,906 recoveries; TPR @ 15.75 per cent

Despite the decline of covid cases Kerala reports 12,223 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity was recorded as 15.75 per cent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam- 2944, Thiruvananthapuram-1562, Kottayam-1062, Kollam-990, Kozhikode- 934, Thrissur-828, Idukki-710, Alappuzha-578, Pathanamthitta-555, Wayanad-495, Kannur-444, Palakkad-438, Malappuram-419 and Kasaragod-264. A total of 77,598 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

2,32,052 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,26,887 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 5165 people are in hospitals. 765 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday. Among the 1,13,798 active Covid cases reported, only 4.5 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 25 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 195 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 118 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 63,019 in the state.

Among the new patients, 33 were returned from outside the state. 11,046 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1056 patients remains unidentified. 88 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 21,906 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-1956, Kollam-3182, Pathanamthitta-605, Alappuzha-1577, Kottayam-2713, Idukki-1220, Ernakulam-3514, Thrissur-1402, Palakkad-1115, Malappuram-1300, Kozhikode-1563, Wayanad-511, Kannur-966, and Kasaragod-282. 62,62,770 people were recovered from the disease so far.
