Kerala reports 8,655 new COVID cases, death toll climbs to 63,338

Despite the decline of covid cases state on Thursday reported 8,655 new Covid-19 cases, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity was recorded as 13.38 per cent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam- 1696, Thiruvananthapuram-1087, Kollam-812, Thrissur-746, Kottayam-731, Kozhikode-610, Alappuzha-567, Pathanamthitta-447, Idukki-420, Malappuram-405, Kannur-357, Palakkad-343, Wayanad-332 and Kasaragod-102.

A total of 64,650 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 2,14,307 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,09,925 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 4382 people are in hospitals. 679 people were taken to hospitals on Thursday.

Among the 99,424 active Covid cases reported, only 4.5 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals. Along with 18 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 193 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 108 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 63,338 in the state.

Among the new patients, 24 were returned from outside the state. 7884 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 660 patients remains unidentified. 87 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 22,707 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-5811, Kollam-1540, Pathanamthitta-542, Alappuzha-1360, Kottayam-2680, Idukki-743, Ernakulam-2783, Thrissur-1832, Palakkad-821, Malappuram-1183, Kozhikode-1420, Wayanad-780, Kannur-950, and Kasaragod-262. 62,85,477 people were recovered from the disease so far.
