Why these foods make you tired?

Food plays a vital role in a healthy body. Some foods can enhance energy, certain foods can induce fatigue. Have you ever felt tired after a hefty meal? The fatigue can be attributed to the food consumed and how it impacted your health. This condition is known as a food coma, or postprandial fatigue/postprandial somnolence.
Fatigue causing foods

Here are some foods that might drain you physically:

  1. Fried items: Inflammation is one of the causes of fatigue. Excessive oil and salt consumption through fried foods can leave your body tired. This also applies to fried, sugary treats as the spike in blood sugar levels due to its intake can leave you in dire need of a nap.

2. White bread: Foods such as white bread and pasta are a source of refined carbs which can cause a spike in blood sugar levels in the body. These foods must be avoided if you wish to keep fatigued at bay. As an alternative, you can go for foods that do not contain refined carbohydrates such as vegetable noodles, whole grain bread, etc.

3. Sugary cereal: Cereal is one of the most commonly consumed breakfast meals. But did you know that picking the wrong cereal can leave you tired throughout the day? Sugary cereals can cause a sudden rise and fall in blood sugar levels which can lead to unwanted fatigue.

4. Caffeine: In an attempt to keep tiredness and drowsiness at bay, your caffeine consumption may pull a reverse Uno card at you and add to your fatigue.

5. Processed foods: From burgers to hot dogs, ready to make meats and other ingredients are easily available in this fast-paced food industry. Processed foods might not be the healthiest food choice for people because they are loaded with additives, preservatives, salt, and sugar. Intake of the same can cause fatigue due to deteriorated blood sugar and pressure levels, challenged digestive system, and inflammation.
