Neena Gupta on her first marriage’s demise: “I didn’t see myself ever being a regular housewife.”

In her book ‘Sach Kahun Toh: An Autobiography,’ Neena Gupta recently shared some memories. In the book, Neena discusses how she married at a young age and how it failed within a year. In a conversation with Kareena Kapoor Khan, the ‘Badhaai Ho’ actress revealed that she married a young man named Amlan Kusum Ghose. Neena went on to say that they met in college, when she was pursuing her master’s degree in Sanskrit and Amlan was a student at IIT.

The actress revealed everything about the relationship in a Zoom report. “Amlan and I would meet in secret on campus, at his hostel, or near my house,” she explained. His parents lived in another city, but his grandfather lived down the street from me, so he would come to WEA for festivals and holidays.” Neena’s parents found out about her relationship when her friends began teasing her in front of her parents; however, this did not deter Neena. Neena eventually married Amlan in order to accompany him to Srinagar.

Later, the couple realised they weren’t meant to be together, and Neena explained, “Amlan saw things differently.” Given the circumstances and our upbringing, I believe he had always assumed that I would eventually settle down and devote my time to our family. But I’d gotten a little too ambitious and didn’t see myself as a typical housewife. I desired more from life, and the more theatre I performed, the clearer my path became.”

“During the short time Amlan and I were married, we never quarrelled much,” Neena continued. Not about our everyday lives, how our house was run, or my studies and career. We were both very young when we married, but I don’t have a bad word to say about him to this day.” After a year, Neena and Amlan divorced.
