Kerala’s pride ‘Ganagandharvan’ KJ Yesudas turns 84 today

Legendary playback singer Dr KJ Yesudas celebrates his 84th birthday on Wednesday. The vocalist, who usually celebrates his birthday at Kollur Mookambika Temple, will not be able to visit the holy place, since he is currently residing in Dallas, US. The last time he visited Mookambika on his birthday was in 2020. He avoided flying to India this time owing to the prevailing Covid concerns. The singer’s birthday celebrations will be held at Azeezia Convention Centre, Padivattom in Kochi today. The event is organised by Samam-Singers Association of Malayalam Movies. Yesudas who is basking in the glory of ‘Sathabhishekam’ is one of the most revered personalities in Kerala. He is actually a ‘Pan Indian’ singer. His legendary music journey spanning over seven decades proves his relentless passion for the ‘craft’. “It is the blessings of my parents, teachers and listeners that help me move forward. However, I am sad that I am not able to visit Mookambika Amma on my birthday. Passion for music is still my driving force.

The prolific singer, who has won the National Award for the Best Male Playback Singer eight times, has recorded more than 70,000 songs in various languages.
